Valentina Matvienko mets with Chairman of Senate of Uzbekistan

The delegation headed by Valentina Matvienko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, has held talks November 12 at the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis.

During the conversation with Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan I.Sobirov it was stressed in particular that the relations between Uzbekistan and Russia have been advancing steadily in parliamentarianism along with many other spheres. Agreements reached during meetings of the heads of our two states serve as important normative foundation for the development of such interaction.

The relations between Uzbekistan and Russia have been evolving on the principles of association relationships and strategic partnership. The regular meetings at the highest level facilitate the further expansion of cooperation in the socio-political, trade-economic, investment, science-technical and humanitarian areas.

The Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly noted that the steadfast reforms being undertaken in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Islam Karimov to enhance democratic transformation and bolster the civil society have been yielding remarkable outcomes. As the chief of Russia’s upper house of parliament put it, her country is interested in the further consolidation of the mutually advantageous cooperation with Uzbekistan.

The negotiations included exchange of views on issues related to the enlargement of ties between the supreme legislatures of our two nations.
