GENDER EQUALITY ISSUES DISCUSSED AT THE SENATE OF THE OLIY MAJLIS OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN
A seminar-training on Gender Development Issues was held at the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 21 December 2012.
The seminar-training was held jointly by the Senate Committee on Foreign Political Issues, Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, and the UNDP Parliamentary Development Project in Uzbekistan.
Training participants were widely informed on UN international documents on gender issues, including the UN Convention on Elimination of Discrimination against Women, ratified by Uzbekistan on 6 May 1995.
As it was stated during the seminar-training the Uzbek Government has been paying a great attention to gender equality issues as early as initial years of state Independence.
Speakers noted on achievements gained by Uzbekistan in provision of gender equality, namely in support of women in all the spheres of socio-economic and political activities.
Further, speakers emphasized on the speech by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, provided on the eve of the Constitution Day. Namely, it was underlined that President paid a significant attention to the issues of support of women in his speech.
Members of the Senate and deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan , representatives from the central and regional structures of the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, representatives from various ministries and other organizations participated during the seminar-training.
